Buckskin Joe Frontier Town and Railway has a long and storied haunted history ~~ Come and journey with us as we explore our haunted history.

In 1999, Buckskin Joe Frontier Town and Railway hosted the History Channel when they came to film part of their Haunted Rockies Series at Buckskin Joe Frontier Town and Railway.  They were intrigued by all of the unexplained happenings that have taken place over that past 50 years at the old west frontier town.

Of course, there are so many, many stories about lights going on and off, pianos being played when nobody is around, hearing footsteps on the boardwalk when nobody is around.  There are way too many of those to even put down in writing but listed below are just a few of the more interesting stories about the haunting of Buckskin Joe Frontier Town and Railway.

The Lady in Blue is reported to be the "protector" of the town.  She has been seen by various staff members over the years with strikingly similar descriptions.  She is wearing a long blue dress with lace and has blonde hair that is put up in a bun. She is generally seen in and around the Sackett House but also has been seen in the Last Chance Saloon.

The ghost parade is another fascinating story. One night, the manager was watching TV in his housing unit on property.  He suddenly got a sense that he needed to come into the main part of the town about 200 yards away from his housing unit.  He put on a coat, grabbed a shot gun and walked into town.  At the corner of the Sheriff's Office a presence stopped him and pushed him to sit down on the boardwalk. He sat down and watched as what he described as "spirits were flying around bouncing into the swinging doors and dissolving for about 20 minutes".  Then suddenly, the same presence gave him a feeling it was time to leave and he left in a hurry and didn't look back.

At the Royal Gorge Scenic Railway after hours as the staff are counting inventory or making fudge, they have described hearing the music boxes going off when nobody is around to play them.  They also talk about the wind chimes making noise with no wind to push them.

Several staff have seen what has been described as an evil miner in the Silver Dollar Saloon.  One staff member, when in the Silver Dollar Saloon early in the morning before dawn, described having his back turned to the bar while stoking a fire.  He got a sudden and fierce chill up his spine.  He turned his head slowly and saw a miner standing at the end of the bar.  He described this miner as "the most evil presence he has ever felt".  He left the saloon immediately and has never again gone into the saloon before dawn.

Visitors to Buckskin Joe Frontier Town and Railway have also had very interesting experiences with our long time residents. One lady and her grandson were visiting the town, looking through the museum style exhibits.  She stopped back by the gate and was talking to the manager regarding the neat affect in the homestead.  The manager was confused and asked her what she was talking about.  The customer said you know, the one where the chair moves across the floor.  The manager shook her head and explained to the grandmother that she just had a ghostly experience. The manager explained that there were not any affects set up anywhere in town and if a chair moved across the floor, it must have been one of the ghost moving it.  The grandson's eyes got very big and he started trying to drag his grandma away from the gate toward their car, he didn't want to stay anymore.

During Buckskin Joe's Town of Terror a group came to do the haunt.  They had a younger boy with them who, about 1/4 of the way through the haunt, was too scared to go on.  They met a little girl who sat with the boy until the rest of the group got done.  When they returned to the railway depot they went back in and told the people selling tickets about how nice our staff was and proceeded to tout the virtues of the girl who had sat with the young boy while they finished going through the haunt.  The ticket seller informed them that we did not and could not employ any young children and that was not our employee.  They figured out that it was Sam one of the kid ghosts that haunt the town.  They were pretty shocked and we don't know if they ever told the boy who was sitting with him.
