FAQ's -

How long does it last?  The time varies with the individuals, if you run all the way through it will be over much more quickly.  Generally it is approximately 20+ minutes long.  It is one of the longest haunts in Colorado.

What ages is it appropriate for? Town of Terror is not recommended for kids under 12 years of age.  It is a very scary haunt and younger kids rarely make it through.  That does not mean they can't go through, we just don't recommend it. Please remember, we do not issue refunds for people who do not make it through.  You are paying us to scare you and we are good at scaring you!

How scary is it?  Very scary.  You don't get rated the number one haunt in Colorado for 5 years in a row without being scary.

Where are you located?  We are located 8 miles west of Cañon City on the road to the Royal Gorge. The physical address is 1193 County Rd 3A, Cañon City, CO 81212.  Many times a GPS or navigation system will not bring you to the right place so here are driving directions.

Colorado Springs points north of Colorado Springs - Take exit 140 off of I-25.  Go to Nevada Avenue and head south. Go about 40 miles on Nevada Ave which turns into HWY 115, until you see the signs for HWY 50 west to Cañon City.

Head west on HWY 50, go through Cañon City for about 8 miles.  You will go up a hill, once at the top of the hill about 1 mile down you will make a left turn on the road to the Royal Gorge (look for the big gold & black River Runners Rafting sign, the turn is right there).  The scenic railway depot is about 1 mile down on the right hand side. If you start going very distinctively down hill, you have gone too far.  If you pass signs for HWY 9, you have gone too far.

Pueblo and points south of Pueblo - Take I-25 to HWY 50 west to Cañon City.  Go through Cañon City for about 8 miles.

How should we dress?  This is mostly an outdoor haunt with some indoor areas that are not heated.  Dress appropriately for an outdoor activity in Colorado in October.  Your guess is as good as ours!  It could be 70 degrees or minus 20.  Ya' gotta love it!

Can our group go together?  Please remember you are paying us to scare you, the smaller the group the better the scare.  This is why we allow only groups of 3 to 4 people in at a time.  It isn't to make you have less fun it is to help insure you have more fun.  Please try to break up your larger groups into smaller sizes before getting to the front of the line. We try to keep groups spaced out appropriately and ask that you do not wait somewhere for the rest of your group to catch up, trust us when we say your scare will be better the smaller your group.

Are there places to stay overnight in the area? Absolutely and one of our partners, the Arkansas River Inn & Suites offers a discount for Town of Terror patrons.  Just mention "Town of Terror" when making your reservation or before you check in and you will receive the Town of Terror discounted rate.  You can call them directly at 719-275-3377 but don't forget to mention "Town of Terror".

Can I get a refund if I don't want to go in or leave early because I am scared? Please note, we do not issue refunds for any reason.

Do you have lines? On weekend nights we can have lines but we do our best to move people through the lines as quickly as possible but still allow our guests the best scaring experience possible.  If you have a choice, you may want to come on a night other than Friday or Saturday.  In the ticket purchasing area, we post the wait times when needed so please look for that time and make your determination before buying your ticket if you want to wait in line.  Again please note we do not issue refunds.

Town of Terror History

See what evil is lurking around the next corner, behind the next door, overhead, underfoot, evil is all around as the staff of Buckskin Joe transform this mild mannered friendly old west town into something truly sinister.  This haunt is the best in Colorado and would rival the best haunts anywhere.  Leave it to our sinister staff to take this town that is already scary at night and turn it into something so twisted and demented that adults literally "wet" themselves on a nightly basis.

Buckskin Joe's haunted history helps make this a uniquely remarkable haunted house setting. The History Channel's, "Haunted Rockies Series"© highlights the inexplicable things that have happened day after day and year after year at Buckskin Joe.

Some of the haunt guests have seen our ghost children who they think are part of the haunt only to be informed that they are not.  Some have seen various characters in places where there are not scares.  Some feel the touch of a hand when there is nobody there. All of the extra paranormal activity only enhances the mood of the actual haunt.

Imagine a haunt so isolated from the city lights and noise that no one will hear you scream. A silence so deafening it drives the imagination wild. Imagine stepping into a town where the specters of long ago still roam freely.  Imagine being lost in the Lincoln Theater, the Grand Central Station of netherworld activity for Buckskin Joe and an old hanging barn used for public executions many, many moos ago.  Imagine the tortured souls who never made it to the other side coming out to play and you have Buckskin Joe's Town of Terror.  The perfect haunted attraction.

Warning this haunt is not recommended for people who have heart problems, are prone to seizures, are claustrophobic, are unsteady of their feet or younger children under 12 years old.  Low lighting, strobe lights, uneven ground, tight confined spaced, crawling and other effects may produce adverse effects for persons with some of the issues listed above.
